Lasercroft Supporting Local Initiatives…

Local urban agriculture initiative Rooted in Hull have named us as their sponsor of the month following our donation of a solar invertor & panels for their latest unit.

The projects aim is to create a mobile agricultural hub, using shipping containers alongside raised planters & polytunnels. These units are to be added to as funding becomes available, hopefully realising the award winning initial concept.

Our donation is planned to be fitted to the latest unit, an on site bakery, supplying bread & pizza to local businesses. Being situated only a stones throw from our offices this is something we’ll be keen to try out!

The site, which we have watched evolve over the last 18 months, is situated on vacant land owned by Wedge Galvanising. This is where the mobile nature of the project is beneficial, as the whole development is designed to be shipped to another site, container by container when required.

The project engages a wide range of community groups and charities, allowing people to learn & experience food & nutrition from a more practical angle, something not all demographics have the benefit of.

RiH works closely with Hull College with students who help by fitting out the containers & making the beds & planters. Recently they have been making window boxes which are pre-planted with herbs or salads and given away to local families, hopefully sewing a growing interest.

If you are reading this please give them a follow on Twitter @RootedinHull & look them up on Facebook. Or pop by and drop a quid in the honesty box and take away some fresh herbs to add to your tea!
